On 14 March 2023, the UK Medicines regulator approved an application to reclassify the erectile dysfunction medication Cialis. When marketed asCialis Together(tadalafil 10mg), it will be a ‘P’ (pharmacy) medication, and so available ‘over the counter’ in pharmacies – see. This follows the 2018, ‘P’ classification of (sildenafil 50mg) which has been available OTC, without a prescription, since then.
This decision is good news for men’s health …. Erectile dysfunction can be a debilitating condition, so it’s important men feel they have fast access to quality and legitimate care
Dr Laura Squire, MHRA’s Chief Officer for Healthcare, Quality and Access
Unfortunately, there is a strong black market in the UK for ED medicines, which are often unlicensed or counterfeit. UK Border Force and the MHRA seize millions of pounds of these fake products from criminals annually. This new classification of tadalafil 10mg will enable men who suffer from ED to obtain it safely from a local pharmacy.
Sanofi, the drug manufacturer, is expected to launch Cialis Together later in 2023. Cialis Together will be available to purchase in pharmacies without a prescription by men over 18 with erectile dysfunction. Cialis Together tablets will contain 10mg tadalafil and the maximum pack size will be 8 tablets. Other doses and pack sizes of Cialis and tadalafil will still be available on prescription through doctors and specially trained pharmacists. Before purchase in a pharmacy there must be an assessment with a pharmacist, who will check that Cialis Together is appropriate and safe, or whether consultation with a GP is necessary.
Men suffering with ED will have another treatment option with the convenience of purchasing it in their local pharmacy, including pharmacies found inside supermarkets (eg. Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s). The pharmacist will ask some health questions, may check blood pressure, and will advise on treatment with Cialis Together or Viagra Connect, or the need to consult a GP. Pharmacies usually have a private room for such discussions.
Cialis Together is a 10mg tadalafil product for use at least 30 minutes prior to anticipated sexual activity. Its effects can last. It is not recommended for daily use. The maximum recommended dose of Cialis Together will be one tablet in 24 hours. Prescription Cialis and tadalafil will still be available at different doses.
Dr Fox welcomes the wider access to ED medication for men that Cialis Together classified as a ‘P’ OTC medication will provide. We at Dr Fox are aware of the difficulties men have in discussing ED with their GPs and in accessing ED medication. We know that Cialis is effective and safe for most men and this change provides another option for obtaining ED treatment. Pharmacists are health professionals who are able to give ED advice but they will also know when to refer men who would benefit from a doctor’s assessment. ‘P’ medicines can also be supplied on prescription, and we will offer Cialis Together, when available, alongside our other competitively priced ED products.

A new study has found that men who took the drug Viagra were more likely to have erectile dysfunction than those who took placebo.
The researchers examined data from the National Institutes of Health's National Sildenafil Study (NOSE) that looked at Viagra's efficacy and side effects among men with erectile dysfunction, looking at their sexual satisfaction and their relationships.
The researchers found that men who took the drug Viagra were more likely to have erectile dysfunction than those who took placebo.
"We were able to show that the men who took the drug had greater improvements in sexual satisfaction than those who took placebo. This finding was particularly important because there was a significant improvement in the quality of erection (libido) that was clinically observed," said study co-author Dr. Steven Korskov, M. D., assistant professor of medicine at Case Western Reserve University and director of the NIH Sexual Medicine Research Program.
The research was published Monday in theJournal of Sexual Medicine.
"It is important to note that the drugs studied in this study are not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in the United States," said Dr. Korskov.
"The only approved drug in this study is Viagra," he said.
"This study shows that even small doses of Viagra did not have significant improvements in erection quality and that, therefore, the drug has been used in the United States for many years."
The study, published in the journalfound that Viagra's effect on erectile function was similar among men who took the drug or placebo. Men who took the drug had more erections when compared to those who took placebo.
Viagra has been used for more than two decades by men who have difficulty getting or maintaining an erection. The drug works by increasing blood flow to the penis to help you get and keep an erection.
"We found that men who took the drug reported more improvement in sexual satisfaction than those who took placebo," said Korskov.
"This is the first study to show that this drug has a statistically significant effect on sexual function," he added.
The results were published in the journalJAMA Internal Medicine
"We are hoping that this study will be used in the U. S., and that other studies will be done around the world," Korskov said.
Dr. Korskov said the study was designed to examine the impact of Viagra on erectile function and sexual satisfaction in men with erectile dysfunction.
"The results are interesting because it is the first study to show that Viagra is safe and effective. It was published in the journal," he said.
"The research we were looking at showed that Viagra had similar effects on sexual satisfaction and erectile function in both men and women who took the drug. But the results were not statistically significant," said Korskov.
"So it was very interesting to see a statistically significant improvement in erection quality."
Korskov said the study was designed to investigate the relationship between Viagra use and other conditions like diabetes and heart disease, specifically erectile dysfunction.
"We wanted to find a relationship between Viagra use and erectile function and also look at other conditions, like diabetes and cardiovascular disease," he said.
"Our results show that men who took the drug who used it regularly reported a statistically significant improvement in erectile function. But the men who took it regularly reported a clinically significant improvement in erectile function."
The researchers also looked at other possible factors like obesity, diabetes and smoking.
The researchers found that those who took Viagra had an increased risk of developing erectile dysfunction in the short term, and this risk increased with longer use.
"It was clear that men who took the drug regularly experienced a clinically significant improvement in erectile function and sexual satisfaction," said Korskov.
"And this is a new study that is important because it shows that this drug has a statistically significant impact on the quality of erection."
Viagra is also not approved for use in the United States for any other health condition, including erectile dysfunction.
Michael E. Lechleiter, M. D., said the study was designed to look at the relationship between Viagra use and erectile function and sexual satisfaction in men.
"So we want to know that this drug has a statistically significant effect on erectile function and sexual satisfaction in men, because we know that this effect is not clinically significant," he said.

I've been on a low dose of Viagra for the last month or so. The drug is used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. I have it on back order and it's been about half a month since I last took it. I'm having terrible headaches, my vision is atrocious, and my blood pressure is dropping from my highest ever levels. I'm just getting really nauseous and getting sick with diarrhea. I'm going to give Viagra a try now. No one knows how long it will take to work. I've been on the drug for four months now and it's been helping a lot. I'm thinking maybe I'm doing something wrong and I can't find a way to get an erection. I'm just really desperate. I can't even get my vision to normal. I'm trying to go back to normal and try Viagra again. I'm not doing anything crazy, just really desperate. I'm thinking maybe maybe I need to get off the drug. Maybe it's just too late to get back on it. Maybe I should try to go back to normal again. Maybe I need to try Viagra again. Maybe I need to try it again. Maybe I should try Viagra again. Maybe I should try to go back to Viagra again. Maybe I should try to try it again. Maybe I should try it again.
